The return of the epic rant thread
« on: March 02, 2009, 11:46:13 AM »
I forget what this thread was called on my old boards... but it needs to return.

This is the place for mini-rants of all genres and flavors. SO GET UR RANT ON!!

Rant #1: I am absolutely sick and tired of the lack of time that I have to work on personal projects. Sure, I understand that as a member of society, I'm expected to contribute to make a living, but shit, fuck, damn, 8 bloody hours a day wasted on gathering currency? I mean really, people, there has to be a better way of doing things.

well, for me it's more like 9 1/2 hours due to travel time.  And then I'm expected to come home and clean up after my brother (wash his dishes, pick up his clothes, fix my computer after whatever he's done to break it), so I hear your frustration.

Rant of the day : I'm 29, it's almost midnight and I'm still @ school working on some shitty assignment for tomorrow.

I think I failed at life some place or another. :/

hey im a recluse who spends 20 out of 24 hours each day playing wow.
I hate those fucking noobs who sit around in stormwind begging for gold so they can get thier mount, pay for training, buy a new weapon, level thier tradeskills, and other various bullshit.  Honestly, theyve nerfed the shit out of WoW so that by level ten you should have enough gold to buy your damn mount on your own! Holy fuck people, if you suck that much at the game just STOP PLAYING!

Honestly, think about it, if you suck at Halo3, you stop playing.  If you suck at CS and your tired of getting headshotted by a hax0r with a fucking knife every time you come around a corner, what do you? YOU STOP PLAYING.

(Or, you get better and pwn some nubs, but honestly, this rant isnt about those kind of people)

So really nao, L2P OR GTFO!

This stands for all games.

Fucking noobs, srsly. omfg.

(ps: if you wanna play some CS and get headshotted by a knife everytime you come around a corner, lemme know, i need moar somethings to kill)

As a casual gamer, Glitch, I have to utterly and entirely disagree with you. People shouldn't have to spend all their time gaming just to have the privilege to play online. Your frustration stems entirely from the fact that you play online for a challenge... and you find unskilled noobs, though easy to gank, to be a pain in the ass to deal with socially.

Here's the solution: Professional gamers need to start screaming at developers to host different classes of servers. There should be casual servers, intermediate servers, and professional servers. They should be labeled as such... and the professional servers could even have an auto-demote feature that drops shitty players down to the intermediate level. The casual servers would be open to all, but would look out for powergamers deliberately pwning noobs for lulz, and boot accordingly. That way, both the casual gamers (aka mfkn noobs) and the professional gamers (aka leetsauce) are all happy... and they can focus on the aspect of gaming they like most.

Not enough time in a day.  Sleep is a waste of time.

I have a pretty steady growing list of things I want to do.

There is not enough time in a day to do it.

There is not enough time in life to do it.

Sleep is a massive waste of time that should be cured asap. (Legally, and without negative side effects: ex: Cocain)

Put it like this, If you live to be 80 years old (80 years is the age I usually choose when I say "live to be" as it seems like a relatively average age to live to, in a "fulfilled" life).

On the average you sleep 8 hours per day.  From birth to death.  I pick 8 hours as an average, because in your entire lifetime there will be plenty of days when you simply cannot sleep that long, do not sleep at all, or sleep considerably more then that.  So, very roughly estimating sleep hours, I say 8.

If you live to be 80, you have lived a total of 29,200 days. Thats 700,800 hours.

If you sleep 8 hours every day, that means in a year you sleep for 365 * 8 = 2920 hours.

2920 hours in 80 years is 233,600 hours.  Thats 9733.33~ days. Which is 26.66~ years.

Now, rounding down to 26 years because I personally think 8 hours per day for an entire lifetime is slightly on the heavy side (but acceptable estimate in my eyes), this means:

80 years of life, 26 years of sleep.  Leaves you having only 54 years of actual life.  Now, what if we want to assume the following:

Of that entire lifespan, your first 10 years are spent (assuming a perfect world) as a happy child out playing and not accomplishing anything aside from growing up healthy.  Your next 10 years are spent adapting to an adult lifestyle (I said assuming a perfect world!) - learning "life skills" and etc.

So assuming your adult life starts at the age of 20; having been properly educated and all that, you now only have 34 years of waking life.

So what I am getting at here is, 80 years of life. 20 years spent "growing up", 26 years wasted "sleeping".  34 years of actual production possible.

This is a very heavy waste of time (Sleeping, that is) - The growing up part, I believe is not a waste, and is absolutely necessary.  But come on, sleep? seriously a waste of time.

Think about it!  Every single person on earth must sleep.  This is as absolute as death itself.  Sleep robs us of approximately 26 years of our lives.  Is this not something that should be cured?  Right up beside finding a cure for death?

Now, I understand the why's involved with sleeping.  I know we need it.  I know that we will suffer brain damage and eventual death if we do not get it.  But this falls into a need for a cure!

Lets zap our brains with microwaves every 24 hours or something.  Inject some sort of vitamins into our spinal columns.  Anything.  We need a cure for sleep!

Sleep is the most important thing you can do. It's the time when your brain makes connections... your immune system fixes problems.... it's your internal defrag and virus scan. It's not a waste of time so much as the time that your body uses to get itself ready to do the many things on your list. Without sleep, your time problem will only get worse. You won't be able to focus... you won't have the energy to do things... and your list will never get shorter.

I speak from experience. I've gotten more done on my list than ever before since I started sleeping (and eating) properly.

Prioritizing helps too. You need to take that list and move your most important things to the top, then move the things you need to get those things done right above them. Then move through the list one item at a time.

and all other things aside, it would be 40 years of productiveness.  Of the 26 years you spend sleeping, 6 of them would have occured before you were 20, and not being productive for other reasons.

Speaking of productivity, the thought police are in the house, so don't expect me to be posting around here as often for the next while :(

The #1 enemy of the internet is the concept of man hours.
