How can I make this site more interesting?
« on: March 24, 2009, 10:21:51 AM »
I've noticed that my traffic lately is not nearly as high as it used to be back in the day. I understand that this is mainly because people have lives now, and don't have time to be checking up on my website every day.

But I've noticed quite a few bounces in my stats... this means people are checking pages once, and not returning. The bounce rate for the forums is actually significantly less, only 33% .... but for my blog, it's about 80% ... which is somewhat concerning.

So my question to you guys: Any idea how to make my site more interesting? What is it lacking? What could I do to interest you guys more? Has Facebook kinda defeated the concept of the personal website entirely?

Yeah, sadly, I think that latter is more the case then anything.  Just as the WWW killed BBSes, and torrents killed P2P, social networking sites like FB, MySpace and the like are killing forums.  Well, killing casual forums, where people go to socialize.  Forums for software developers will probably always exist however

That's ok... I'll hold on... just like the old BBSes (now available via telnet) have :p

In your CSS for the forum, the fields for the password when registering are a white background with white text, and after you enter your username, it also becomes a white background with white text.  This may inhibit people a little bit from registering.

Adding an option somewhere to read recent posts or all new posts instead of just "unread posts" and "Recent Replies to Your Posts" would be great.

Hmm... I guess there is an option kind-of like that, but it lists them as posts instead of as topics.  I've never seen a forum do that before....
